Stephen Colbert’s Commencement Speech At Northwestern Was Hilarious

Is it just me or has been a really banner year for commencement addresses? Sure, it’s only been for a short time that we could watch such speeches in their entirety on the Internet, but this year seems like a year where everyone is bringing their A-game, especially the comedians of the world.

Amy Poehler’s speech at Harvard was pretty stellar, the early frontrunner for commencement speech of the year, but then Conan O’Brien swooped in and raised the bar much higher, only to now, it seems, have his challenge met by Stephen Colbert in an address that hit the web over the weekend.

I can’t decide which was better between O’Brien’s and Colbert’s — it feels kind of like having to choose between blueberry cobbler or peach cobbler. They’re both equally delicious.

Naturally, Colbert’s speech contained a slew of LOLs. Here were my three personal favs…

“Thanks to you, the Class of 2011. You are what some have called the greatest generation, not many but some. So far just me. I’m counting on you to not make me look like an idiot by saying it. So be great, no pressure.”

“Graduates, good luck explaining what I’m talking about to your grandmother at brunch.”

“You have been told to follow your dreams. But what if it’s a stupid dream? If we all stuck with our first dream, the world would be overrun with cowboys and princesses.”

Here’s video of the speech.
