Colorado may be the coolest state in the country due to their chill pot laws, but that doesn’t mean that people shouldn’t watch where they throw their edibles. Not just because littering is bad (it is), but because tossing a half-eaten weed cookie to the ground may result in a small animal getting stoned off their ass and having to be seen by a doctor. And even then, there’s not much doctors can do. Check out what happened when one dog got so stoned that his owner thought he might die. (Good news: he didn’t.)
NBC 11 reports that Katherine Edwards was walking with her dog Bodhi on Tuesday when the pup found something he thought was delicious on the ground. Before Edwards could get whatever it was away from him, the dog had ingested it. And, after a short interval, he began to get sick. Very, very sick:
“His behavior was so drastic, so scary,” Edwards said. She realized that something was very wrong.
“He lost control of his bowels all over the house,” she said. “He started seizing, twitching.”
Then early Wednesday morning it got worse.
“It looked like he was dying,” she said.
So she rushed him to the Denver Animal Hospital.
“I was crying so hard, I said please save my dog, I cannot lose this dog,” she said.
But Edwards didn’t lose the dog. Instead, she learned that Bodhi had ingested enough THC to last him more than a few hours. In fact, the dog was going to need a few days to come down from his amazing journey (which was probably half awesome/half terrifying). The takeaway here, NBC reports, is that everyone should be very careful when walking their dogs in Colorado. And that those who enjoy recreational marijuana usage should maybe use trash cans if they’re going to throw their uneaten edibles away.
Edwards, though, had a very different thought: “Totally stoned, I should have taken him to Taco Bell,” she said. Edwards also now has to watch Bodhi “like a hawk,” although it’s not clear whether that’s because the THC is dangerous or whether the dog wants more of that dank.
At least Bodhi is a little chiller than this cat, who also got stoned once.
