In addition to possibly spitting on Phil Taylor, Ray Rice’s outing against the Browns on Sunday was marked by a hip flexor injury that knocked him out of the game with 12 minutes left in the fourth quarter. The early exit, coupled with a subpar statistical performance to that point (45 total yards and a lost fumble), meant Rice delivered far fewer points than expected to fantasy owners, who ask a lot of Rice since he was most likely the first-round pick of the owners who have him.

So, not totally unsurprisingly, when Ray Rice checked in with social media after the game, instead of finding sympathy for his injury or encouraging words about his effort, he was beset with vitriol from fantasy owners angry about his lack of output.

He then tweeted this:

Can’t say I fault him for feeling that way. Not only was Rice hurt, but it’s stupid to berate players for not being mindful of a thing that is only loosely connected to what they do. It’s not like Ray Rice didn’t want to run for 225 yards and three scores. If anything, you should blame yourself for making unwise picks – a lot of experts were calling for Rice to have a down year before the season started – and generally being cursed by the gods of fantasy.

Speaking of, do yourself a favor and sign up for fantasy football with Draftstreet.
