It’s been less than 24 hours since news hit that Adam Wiles and our friend Becky have finally called it quits, but there’s no shortage of internet fallout regarding the couple’s split. After all, their relationship seemed rock solid and if Taylor can’t have happiness, what chance do the rest of us have in this crazy mixed-up world? And now that initial reactions — shock, outrage, the usual gnashing of teeth — have all come in, it’s time to play the most important game of our time: trying to figure out exactly what happened.
According to E!, new information has surfaced,in the form of “anonymous sources,” that “confirms” the split had nothing to do with cheating or Swift’s needing a new reason to find inspiration for a new album. Instead, the breakup seems like it may have been fairly free of drama. Harris may have just been into Swift less than she was into him.
“Adam really liked Taylor, she was not the type of girl he ever dates and he liked that. He liked how innocent Taylor was and that she had a good caring heart. Taylor’s heart was more in it then he was. He started to lose interest over the past few months, but really tried to not just break up,” a source tells E! News.
And:
“They were just not very compatible in different areas in their relationship. The touring and traveling didn’t help. It seemed like they were more friends than lovers,” the insider added. “Taylor and Adam had very different group of friends,” the source noted, and reassured that Harris “100 percent did not cheat.”
That’s good to hear, but will it make a difference to the fans? Especially those wondering who really dumped who? Seems unlikely, especially because the responses to E!’s tweet about the situation has people making wilder and wilder conjectures about why the pair is no longer together, ranging from the very reasonable (couples break up, it’s hard to be in a relationship) to the way out there (it had something to do with her hair?):

It could be any of these reasons, it could be none. It’s unlikely we’ll know the answer until at least one of the two speak out about it publicly (perhaps they’re rushing to see who will get the single out first?), but there’s one more thing that’s got fans in a tizzy. One of Swift’s besties, Abigail Lauren, posted this Instagram photo right around the time the news that Calvin and Taylor called it quits hit the web:
The post, which has racked up thousands and thousands of likes, doesn’t answer any questions, but it’s filled with well-wishes and frantic demands that someone (anyone) let the world know whether Swift and Harris are officially dunzo. Expect at least one think piece about the situation to pop up by the end of the week.
