In an interview with CBS This Morning, Ted Cruz went all Grandpa from Sixteen Candles and declared he hates that rock ‘n roll rubbish. Because of 9/11.

Cruz says he grew up listening to classic rock, but on that fateful day, his taste changed completely.

“And it’s a very strange—I actually intellectually find this very curious. But on 9/11, I didn’t like how rock music responded. And country music collectively, the way they responded, it resonated with me. And I have to say, just at a gut level—I had an emotional reaction that says, ‘These are my people.’ And so ever since 2001, I listen to country music.”

I hope this is just the start of Ted Cruz showing how American he is in the face of the Canadian concerns, and it naturally progresses to him doing a boot-scootin’ boogie while eating a KFC Double Down.
