Selfie addiction is real and Danny Bowman is living proof as he reportedly tried to commit suicide when he failed to capture the perfect selfie.

The 19-year-old lost nearly 30 pounds, dropped out of school and did not leave the house for six months in his quest to get the right picture. He would take 10 pictures immediately after waking up.

He has been dubbed Britain’s first selfie addict.

Frustrated at his attempts to take the one image he wanted, Bowman eventually tried to take his own life by overdosing, but was saved by his mom. [Independent]

Danny’s addiction began as a result of being rejected by a modeling agency.

He started posting selfies to Facebook at the age of 15, but found his addiction spiraling out of control after his aspirations of being a male model were dashed by a rejection at a casting session for a agency in 2011. [NYDN]

The teenager was diagnosed and treated for his technology addiction, OCD and body dysmorphic disorder, and has now teamed up with Fixers, a UK-based organization that raises awareness and understanding of social issues affecting teens.
