‘The Arsenio Hall Show’ Has Been Canceled After Only One Season

It would seem that nothing is set in stone in TV Land, even if you get a renewal announcement on the air with the help of Jay Leno. I guess the ol’ Leno curse has struck again.

The Arsenio Hall Show has been canceled due to a dreaded drop in ratings. CBS released a statement confirming their decision. From Variety:

“Unfortunately, ‘The Arsenio Hall Show’ will not return for a second season; while there are many loyal fans of the show, the series did not grow its audience enough to continue. Arsenio is a tremendous talent and we’d like to thank him for all the hard work and energy he put into the show. We’d also like to thank Tribune and all our station group partners for their support of the show.”

I believe that’s called pulling the rug out from under someone. I suppose that a commitment for this type of talk show is loose at all times, especially when it is syndicated.

Arsenio had a strong start with his comeback, garnering some nice ratings and successful guest bookings. But I suppose that even a Prince takeover couldn’t save the show in the end. Hopefully everyone involved can land on their feet and find something else on short notice.
