These Are The Internet’s 10 Favorite Films Ever, According To #Fav7Films

More often than not, hashtags are a waste of a perfectly good pound sign. It’s not the sexiest symbol on the keyboard (that would be the asterisk, obviously), but it deserves better than #JustinBieberFansAreTheOnlyFansAndEveryoneElseCanDie. Every so often, though, a good hashtag comes along — this week’s example: #Fav7Films. The premise is simple: name your seven favorite films. Of all-time? Of this year? In the Fast and the Furious franchise? (Tokyo Drift isn’t last.) That’s up to you.

For instance, here’s mine: Air Bud, Air Bud: Golden Receiver, Air Bud: World Pup, Air Bud: Seventh Inning Fetch, Air Bud Spikes Back, The Search for Santa Paws, and Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups. That wasn’t so difficult. But where does Air Bud rank in the top-10 of everyone’s #Fav7Films lists? Unfortunately, it doesn’t. According to social media research and digital media consultancy firm Fizziology, via Mashable, these were the 10 most cited films between 5 a.m. and 7 p.m. EST on Monday, when the hashtag was at its peak.

1. The Dark Knight: 5,056
2. Pulp Fiction: 4,966
3. Shawshank Redemption: 4,910
4. Empire Strikes Back: 4,772
5. The Godfather (all films): 4,604
6. Goodfellas: 3,877
7. Alien (all films): 3,730
8. Fight Club: 3,574
9. Harry Potter (all films): 2,757
10. Jaws: 2,622 (Via)

(The Godfather, Alien, and Harry Potter franchises were lumped into one because people didn’t note which entry they were referring to — probably not The Godfather Part III — while The Empire Strikes Back was singled out from Attack of the Clones.) The Dark Knight topping the chart isn’t a surprise, considering superhero movies are the dominant box office force, and fans are remembering how great Heath Ledger was as the Joker, compared to Jared Leto’s psycho-goth performance. Speaking of: Suicide Squad was the third most cited movie released in 2016, behind Deadpool and Captain America: Civil War and in front of Zootopia and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
