The PlayStation 2 Just Will Not Die

Hey, remember the PS2? That was sure a great system. Too bad that it’s dead and gone.

Except, apparently, very much not. In fact, according to Kotaku, the PS2 sold as well as the PS Vita over the holidays.

How is the PS2 managing to endure where other systems wither and fade? The short answer is, it’s cheap, and it’s what Third World gamers can afford, really. A new PS2 is under a hundred bucks at Target, and needless to say, the biggest numbers of them were sold in places like Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and South America, places where kids need amusing and games need playing, but $300 and an Internet connection is still a privilege of the very rich.

But, hey, at least they’re gaming.
