The ‘Supergirl’ Pilot May Have A Bit More Superman Than We Thought — And A Goofy DC Villain

Supergirl is rapidly coming together. As the show casts up and begins revealing some details about the pilot, one thing that stands out is that they’re not shy about the Superman connection — or about bringing in the silly villains.

Screenrant dug up a plot summary of the pilot that reveals Supes is at least going to come up, and that they are not worrying too much about how ridiculous some of his villains are:

Kara Danvers née Zor-El will have her work cut out for her from the get-go, seeing as her adversary in the series pilot will be the DC Comics baddie Lumberjack. To that end, the CBS freshman is seeking a hulk akin to “Rory McCann, the 6-foot-6 actor from Game of Thrones” [to] play this “big, burly monster of a man, who has battled Kara’s cousin” — that’d be you-know-who — “in the past” and shows up to ascertain her level of power, on behalf of an unseen superior.

First of all, that “unseen superior” bit seems like it might be fun, unless it’s Luthor, in which case it’s lazy. Secondly, it appears we’ll be hearing about Kal-El off and on, since Kara doesn’t have a lot of cousins running around. That said… Lumberjack? This is a villain so obscure that he first appeared, and last appeared, nearly 35 freakin’ years ago. He’s so bad that DC may have retconned him out of their lineup as an act of contrition.

That said, it is all in the execution. Provided he doesn’t show up looking like a jacked hipster, he could make sense as a walking fight scene. And it’s good to use villains not even the biggest nerd has expectations for. Still, this is going to be running through my head during the pilot:
