Benedict Cumberbatch is a god.
Just kidding, he’s an actor; a really good-looking, multi-talented, Oscar-nominated actor who also happens to be one of the nicest people on the planet, and if his legions of Cumberbabes — they used to be Cumberbitches until the actor asked his female fans to empower themselves with a less derogatory name — aren’t hopeless for him already, they will be after this.
The Sherlock actor penned a letter to the grieving family of one of his biggest fans, 14 year-old Eve Shepherd, who watched Cumberbatch’s BBC show religiously. She was born premature and suffered complications from that birth throughout her life, including undergoing 200 operations and having to have a tracheotomy tube to help her breathe. Shepherd passed away due to breathing difficulties earlier this month, and her favorite actor sent his condolences to her family, which were then read at the young girl’s funeral service as the show’s theme song played during the procession.
Here’s what Cumberbatch wrote:
I send my deepest sympathies to Eve’s family. To lose someone so young who fought for her health all her life must be beyond endurance.
I hope they can take solace from the fact that she was clearly much loved and her support of our show is hugely appreciated and shall be remembered.
I wish I could be there but sadly am filming the show she loved. God rest her soul. With all my love and sympathies, Benedict xxx.
