This Sanitation Worker Was Sentenced To 30 Days In Jail For Starting His Shift Too Early

Atlanta sanitation worker Kevin McGill will be spending his weekends in jail after prosecutors sentenced handed him a 30-day sentence. His punishment isn’t because he wasn’t doing his job, however, but because he was doing it at the wrong designated time: before 7 a.m. His early bird trash pick-up violated a city law that’s meant to keep people from waking up in the middle of the night.

His attorney — who wasn’t present during his sentencing — is now filing a motion to withdraw McGill’s plea in hopes of doing away with the jail time. As silly as the law may seem, I *personally* was kept awake until 3 a.m. last night because of sanitation trucks, so I’m running a little low on sympathy this afternoon.
