Let’s Look Back At Tracy Morgan’s ‘SNL’ Deep Cuts

During his tenure on SNL, Tracy Morgan was one of the standout performers. His live-wire personality and his penchant for the absurd made him one of the most unique comedians to ever grace the venerated stage. Tracy had plenty of trademark characters like Astronaut Jones and Brian Fellows, but those classic bits just graze the surface of his immense talent. Here are some of his sketches and moments from Saturday Night Live you may have forgotten about. Just try not to get pregnant.

Suppressex

This sketch borders on being slightly uncomfortable with its opening sequence, but seeing Morgan play a faux doctor is quite satisfying. While most of his characters were unprofessional and slightly deviant — including when he played himself  — it’s always great when Tracy plays the other side of the coin.

Judge Horace

A Judge Mathis sketch where Tracy Morgan plays up Mathis’ supposed upbringing on the “other side of the tracks?” Yes, please. Judge Horace having his bailiff roll up a blunt for him during court proceedings is hilarious, but Tracy takes it even further by fat-shaming Horatio Sanz for almost the entirety of the sequence. Also, Robert De Niro sort of brings back his character from Jackie Brown.

Will Ferrell’s Final Show

As each performer expounds on what they’ll miss about Will Ferrell on his way out of the SNL doors, you just know the other shoe has to drop at some point. Said shoe is Tracy Morgan. Morgan rattles off a list of reasons why Ferrell is not as genuine and caring as other cast members said he was, but that all changes when Ferrell appears.

Talking Stars: Jon Stewart

Some of Tracy’s best moments on SNL were when he played a hyper-realized version of himself. In “Talking Stars,” Morgan brings on a heavy dose of over-sexed bravado, while also prodding Jon Stewart on his drug use. It’s this same characterization that made Tracy’s time on 30 Rock so memorable.

Big Bernard

There probably aren’t many cast members in SNL‘s history who would allow a massive behemoth like Shaquille O’Neal to sit across their lap as they spanked him, but Tracy is one of them. This is one of those moments that’s not cleverly written, but instead provides a boatload of absurd humor, something that Tracy excelled at.

“I’m gonna spank your ass until you wish you didn’t have an ass” should be the battlecry for frustrated parents across the globe.

King Kong: The Director’s Cut

[protected-iframe id=”6c55b56c13952b315408e48ad3614456-60970621-53518731″ info=”https://screen.yahoo.com/king-kong-directors-cut-000000681.html?format=embed” width=”640″ height=”360″ frameborder=”0″ scrolling=”no”]

As far as d*ck jokes go, this one is pretty good. Imagining what would happen if King Kong got an erection during his climb up a building is a hilarious premise, and while the joke is minimal in its complexity, it’s just silly and ridiculous enough to be worthy of a few guilty chuckles.

Weekend Update: Fashion

Tracy is one of the few cast members on SNL who appeared regularly on “Weekend Update” as himself, delivering a short monologue about a topic like politics or sports. In this one, he expounds on the racial lines in contemporary fashion with a series of acronyms.

Backstage: No Wrestling

[protected-iframe id=”24d8cad2af3ab66fb37919412e307581-60970621-53518731″ info=”https://screen.yahoo.com/no-wrestling-000000640.html?format=embed” width=”640″ height=”360″ frameborder=”0″ scrolling=”no”]

During his time on the show, Morgan would regularly appear in backstage segments with Lorne Michaels. The SNL creator’s straight-laced persona clashed hilariously with Tracy’s brazenness, and always ended with him ordering Lorne to get him soda, “B*tch!” They always didn’t see eye-to-eye in these moments, but in this wrestling bit, they collude to get the female guests to do a lil’ wrasslin’.
