Treach (Of Naughty By Nature) – “Tall Midget” (Vinnie Diss)

Another ’90s rap group bites the dust via social media. Not really sure what precipitated the situation but Treach let off a string of tweets on Monday saying that longtime group member Vinnie was fired…except for during show appearances scheduled between now and September. And you thought the Mobb Deep breakup was complicated and confusing.

Fast forward to the past 24 hours and Treach follows things up with “Tall Midget,” which may go down as one of the cruddiest diss songs I’ve heard in a while.

“Don’t bite the hand that feeds you, that’s exciting, fighting
I shoulda done celebrity ghost stories for all my ghost writing
I can’t fire the owner ’cause its me and my DJ (Kay Gee)
[You] get a grown man time out
I’m out – get my swag on eBay
Cash, I get it, grab it feel the punishment from this savage
[I’m] a legend lyrical lord call you Uncle Ad Lib.”

The words read pretty sharp but they aren’t delivered with razor’s edge sharpness Treach is known for unfortunately so listening to the track’s a chore. Treach did take the time to talk with AllHipHop to explain the situation. “Nobody is larger than the group.” Treach spoke. “We always fit [Vinnie] in even if there wasn’t a spot for [him] to fit in.” He goes on to share that business decisions were allegedly made without the group’s consent and the friction’s been building for a while before coming to a head this week.

Guess it’s a good thing we went ahead with the idea to do a Naughty By Nature Primer when we did, huh?
