Trent Williams Exposes The Folly Of NFL Concussion Tests

Redskins tackle Trent Williams was one of scores of players selected to go to the Pro Bowl who didn’t end up taking part in the possibly doomed annual exhibition. His reason, however, was different from the usual “I’d rather not” reason employed by most players. Williams made the trip to Hawaii, only to get assaulted in a nightclub the weekend of the game.

One man was arrested as a result of the brawl and five others are being investigated. Williams will require seven stitches from the injuries he sustained being bludgeoned in the head with a champagne bottle. He was also tasered, just to make thing spicy. Were it not the Pro Bowl, however, Trent might have been able to play seeing as how he passed multiple NFL concussion tests.

Mike Shanahan would have made him play. That’s for damn sure. Now, just because Trent sustained a nasty shot to the head that required stitches doesn’t necessarily mean he has to have a concussion. It’s entirely possible he has Homer Simpson Syndrome, giving him a much thicker cranium than most. Let’s try to be fair on this.
