Twitter, The Last Bastion Of Brevity On The Internet, Is Doing Away With Its 140-Character Limit In DMs

Your private Twitter conversations are going to get a whole lot more bloated: The company’s staff just announced in a blog post that the 140-character limit in direct messages will be kaput come July. No reason was given for the change, but it was made clear that this only applies to DMs and not public tweets, which will retain the limit.

They’ve included some instructions on some technical things to adjust ahead of the switch, but it probably won’t prepare you for the essays you’ll be subjected to now. But at least you’ll hear notifications less? I don’t know. I kind of liked that people (read: people like me) couldn’t get all windbaggy and marble-mouthed in excess on Twitter, but okay. If you must.

Verbal communication, feh.
