In a classic case of pretty much every American tourist stereotype coming true at once, Arizona-based sisters Lindsey, 22, and Leslie Adams, 20, were arrested for taking naked photos of each other inside Cambodia’s sacred Preah Khan Temple. Okay, they weren’t wearing pink Red Sox hats or carrying a selfie stick adorned with bumper stickers from Burger King, so maybe it’s not EVERY stereotype, but it still checks a number of boxes. Including blissful ignorance:

Chau Sun Kerya, a spokeswoman for the Apsara Authority, said the women’s actions were offensive because Angkor is sacred ground. “Perhaps they did not know Angkor is a holy site. But their inappropriate activities affect the sanctity of the place,” she said. (Via ABC News)

And what were they doing in these photos?

“They lowered their pants to their knees and took pictures of their buttocks,” [police official Keat Bunthan] said, adding that he was not sure yet what charges they might face for their action.

The three deported French men received a suspended six-month prison sentence on two charges – public exposure and making pornography – and will be banned from re-entering Cambodia for four years. (Via ABC News)

For their next trip, the sisters are planning on either wearing Justin Bieber shirts to Anne Frank’s house, or using some sacred scroll in the Vatican as a napkin. One of the two.
