Apparently this is the best week ever for people named Earl. Earl Sweatshirt dropped a new video, or so I’m told. Everyone’s favorite Earl – DMX – has America petitioning for a Christmas mixtape inspired by his flawless “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer” rendition. And last night, New York’s other Earl – J.R. Smith – saved his Knicks from defeat in Charlotte via the ever-exciting game winning fadeaway.
With Carmelo Anthony hobbled with a hand injury, who would take the last shot for New York was a no brainer. Or maybe it was a question of who to everyone except J.R. Regardless, the entire building knew as soon as the ball touched J.R.’s hands it was heading towards the basket in some shape, form or fashion. Credit Michael Kidd-Gilchrist for playing about as great of defense as a person can play without getting called for some form of physical assault in today’s game. But when you’re the Knicks and their fans, karma’s on your side because there was once a time when a certain Bobcats owner would force New York to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
