Random Axe spitting fire on Toca Tuesdays. A simple pleasure. Black Milk holds his own, deliberate and calm. He may be quick to remind everyone that he’s the producer here, but he delivers a solid performance. Guilty Simpson – with nods to Boobie Gibson and Yao Ming – warns foes with his stomping, relentless flow. While never flashy, the man’s skill is consistently evident in his bars. And, as always, Sean Price shines in the radio-station cipher. He’s got charisma, wit and hard-hitting rhymes for days. The room’s left laughing, bitter-beer faces dissolving as Sean P takes his victory lap. Notably, Tony Touch cues up the scraping, marauding “Yonkers” instrumental here and it’s beaten with the bars like a fighter hitting the heavy bag.
The long-awaited Random Axe LP is set to drop on June 14th.
