Meet Vincent, The Obese Dachshund Who Is Going On A Fitness Bender To Save His Life

Look at that face. This adorable little guy is Vincent, and he was surrendered to an animal shelter in Houston after his owner passed away. Not only was it clear to the volunteers at K-9 Angels Rescue that Vincent the dachshund was mourning his owner, but he was a chunky little fellow. Beyond chunky, if we’re being honest. Vincent was brought to the shelter weighing in at 38 pounds, about twice what a dachshund his height should weigh. So this poor little guy was not just depressed, but he could barely even get around carrying all that weight on his tiny little doxie legs.

But the rescue group had some plans for Vincent. Not only have they started him on a much healthier diet — the volunteers and his foster parent think his previous owner fed him nothing but fast food — but they also got him exercising. While the 7-year-old dog could barely walk when they first saw him, after two weeks of swimming and other physical activities, he can jog and has already lost about three pounds. CNN shared a Vine of Vincent swimming, wearing a doggie life vest and everything, so allow this image to brighten your day:

The plan is to find Vincent a new permanent home, and the hope is to whip him into shape before that happens. However, K-9 Angels Rescue is willing to adopt Vincent out to a family who is ready to continue his health regimen. But judging by his progress and his apparent willingness to work on himself, he should find a loving family without a hitch.

Good dog, Vincent!
