America. Home to a diverse set of cultures, traditions, histories, and local phenomena. This leads to regional stereotypes, many of which are easy to make fun of. So that’s exactly what we’re doing.
The UPROXX staff set out to find the popular Internet video that best represents each of our 50 states. We’ve already tackled everything in the west and northeast (here, here, and here). Today we’ll cover the remaining 12 states, essentially the Southeast. In alphabetical order: Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Know of a video that works better for any of these states? Leave it in the comments.
Alabama: Bama Fan Hates TennesseeSubscribe to UPROXX
Football is a big deal in Alabama. There’s arguably no state that takes football more seriously than Alabama, a state pretty much split between Auburn fans and University of Alabama fans. But here’s something that all can agree on: they hate Tennessee. – The Cajun Boy
Delaware: Wayne’s World Blue Screen Scene
Delaware is the most nondescript state in this great nation of ours, so it’s hard to pinpoint an Internet clip to represent it. Luckily, Mike Myers and Dana Carvey hammered the state’s indescribableness during this otherwise stereotype-laden blue screen scene in Wayne’s World. – Ryan Perry
Florida: BATH SALT ZOMBIE
It’s hard to put a finger on just one Florida video that sums up the entire state – the clear winner of the craziest state in the nation – but the Miami “zombie” attack story is probably up there in terms of nailing it in one shot. A man high on a drug cocktail known as “bath salts” attacked a homeless man in the middle of broad daylight, and bit most of his face off, before police eventually gunned him down. I don’t remember which day of the week this took place on, but it’s Florida, so my guess is Tuesday. – Ashley Burns
Georgia: Local News Reporter’s Grape-Stomping Mishap
One of the OG mega viral videos, the grape-stomping local news reporter’s impact on web culture is both immeasurable and long-lasting. The incident took place at Georgia’s Chateau Elan Winery and Resort that just about everyone making their way down I-85 to Atlanta has passed by and thought, “that looks nice.” And it is nice. Except for — of course — when harmless Fox 5 news segments go terribly wrong. – Kris Maske
Kentucky: Kige Ramsey Throws A Football
Next to John Calipari and whatever horse last won the Derby, Kige Ramsey is the most important living thing in the state of Kentucky, because when the internet thinks of Kentucky, it thinks of Kige. Unfamiliar with Kige? His greatest hits are here. – The Cajun Boy
Maryland: David After Dentist
Did you know the first dental school in the world was founded in Baltimore in 1840? It’s true! And there’s no toothier Internet clip than the oft-watched (100+ million views) and oft-referenced (“Is this real life?”) “David After Dentist.” – Ryan Perry
