The British have this weird thing where they’ll bet on damn near anything — weddings, pregnancies, freight shipping, you name it. Why can’t they have the normal American obsession with lotteries and scratch tickets?
Anyway, Irish bookmaker Paddy Power has decided to open a new form of “novelty gambling”: betting on what company Facebook will scarf down next.
It’s actually not an unreasonable bet, because Facebook has gobs of cash right now and wants to get even bigger than it already is. The likely nominee currently is Foursquare, with odds of 4-1, but our money is actually on Facebook buying boutique social networks like Pair, which would get the gooey crap off of public Walls, or Path, because hey, what’s a privacy violation among friends?
