Your Daily Crazy: Two Men Attempt “Exceptional” Jailbreak with Helicopter

Anyone near a Canadian correctional facility outside Montreal received a huge treat Sunday when two men reportedly commandeered a helicopter to scoop up two inmates in order to make a getaway.

According to CNN, two men, posing as tourists, rented a pilot and helicopter from Mont-Tremblant (a town about 80 miles northwest from Montreal) for what seemed to be a touristy-type excursion, only to place a gun to the head of the pilot, steer him towards the prison 30 minutes northwest of Montreal and drop down ropes and cables to secure the breaking out of 36-year-old Benjamin Hudon-Barbeau and 33-year-old Danny Provencal.

Because of the escape’s unique method, deputy director general of Correctional Services Western Quebec, Yves Galarneau, threw up his hands and essentially said, Ah, f*ck it. Good on those guys for executing a prison break this way because we had no f*cking idea how to stop it.

The men involved in the prison break, including Hudon-Barbeau and Provencal, took off in a white Cadillac Escalade; three men, however, were apprehended in the town of Chersey, which included Hudon-Barbeau. Authorities found Provencal, no sh*t, in a sugar shack in Chersey a few hours later. The four men will stand trial today. The helicopter made it back safe and sound to Mont-Tremblant. The pilot, perhaps not so safe and sound, was taken to a hospital for treatment and questioning.

Now, some of the better quotes from CNN’s article on the break, because nothing’s better than hearing about it from the people on the streets:

“It was a real ‘James Bond moment,’ witness Francis Emond told CNN affiliate CTV.”

Haha totally!

“‘The reaction time was probably too slow,'” he told reporters, adding that everything happened very quickly.” – Galarneau

You think? Act like an American and use your gunzzzzzzzzzz to shoot it down, man.

“‘As far as I know, it’s a first in Quebec,’ he told reporters at the scene. ‘It’s exceptional.'” – Also Galarneau

Eh, debatable. I’m sure someone’s seen something better.

“I don’t want to cause any harm to anybody. I am not a killer. I never did anything bad to an innocent,” the man (purportedly Hudon-Barbeau when calling into a radio station) told 98.5 FM.
