Watch How Much Halloween Costumes Have Changed In The Last 100 Years

Halloween, which originated as a pagan festival, became a commercialized holiday in the United States in the early 1900s, and we’ve been making it increasingly less religious and more sexy ever since.

Where once throwing on a witch hat would suffice, now it’s all about the clothes you’re not wearing, or so Mean Girls would have you believe. The folks over at Mode put together a video showing “100 Years of Halloween Costumes in 3 Minutes,” from 1915, when the only skin women were invited to show was their hands, to 2015, by which point we’ve gone full Kardashian.

It’s fun to imagine what October 31 might look like in another 100 years. My money’s on everyone just straight-up walking around naked, except for the guy who’s still dressed like the Joker in The Dark Knight. There’s always one.
