A Mexican Soccer Player Escaped His Kidnapping Like An Action Hero

Hopefully this article finds you sneaking a private moment from your Memorial Day festivities, or assisting you in studiously avoiding them altogether. However you’re spending it, we hope you’ve had a more relaxing weekend than Alan Pulido, a striker formerly of the Mexican national team and currently of Greek club, Olympiakos. On Saturday night, he was kidnapped outside a restaurant in his home town of Ciudad Victoria and taken to a “safe house.” He was held there for more than a day, until he’d had just about enough.

Pulido punched his kidnapper, took his gun and jumped through the glass of a safe house window to safety, according to his police statement. He appeared outside a local precinct with a bandaged hand to assure everyone he was out of harm’s way.

We wish Mexico had its own Memorial Day today, because after all that activity, Pulido could really use an extra day on his weekend. Or at least, that’s what he would say in the movie version of these events.
