Brian Williams Quotes Leonard Cohen And Confuses Everybody With His ‘Beautiful’ Critique Of The U.S. Strike On Syria

So the United States took a clear step against Syria on Thursday by launching close to 60 tomahawk missiles at the nation. The attack was in response to the use of chemical weapons by President Bashar al-Assad and has most of the media scrambling to clear the smoke and decide where we go next. Brian Williams would’ve likely done the same, but it seems he was distracted by the footage of the missiles being launched in the Mediterranean.

While breaking into Rachel Maddow’s show on MSNBC, Brian Williams couldn’t help placing his own stamp on the events by talking about how “beautiful” the missiles were as they were launched towards their destinations. He even went so far as to quote Leonard Cohen’s “First We Take Manhattan,” saying “I’m guided by the beauty of our weapons.” It’s an odd moment given the gravity of the situation, especially considering the reason for the attack.

Obviously, this didn’t sit well with many folks online and it certainly didn’t do much to aid Williams image following his scandal that cost him the seat on NBC Nightly News:

And if you check out the growing number of responses, it just gets worse from there. With many still wondering what this is going to mean come tomorrow and the weeks that follow, it’s nice that we can still have a laugh thanks to Brian Williams.
