Dramatic Footage Shows A Train Derailment In Chicago During A Raging Storm

Intense Chicago storms and a heat wave have caused havoc with flooding, lightning and headaches for those in the region this weekend. Now, the area’s train system has been impacted by the storms, which have caused delays, shutdowns, and even the very dangerous situation seen in the above clip. According to The Chicago Tribune, debris and possibly a tree fell on the tracks, which caused what appears to be a derailment of the train.

In the footage, the train is seen sparking, most likely due to the electrified tracks. Then as the video continues, there appear to be train cars derailed. Sparks and explosions are seen while the woman in the video, seen driving alongside the station, shouts, “The train is off the tracks!” The Chicago Transportation Administration (CTA) has issued statements about this and other weather related train issues today, including portions of the Red, Blue and Brown lines being affected with service temporarily halted until the problems can be cleared up.

CTA will continue investigating this incident. Thankfully, there have been no reports on potential injuries with this incident.
