On Thursday night, Donald Trump formally accepted his nomination as the Republican presidential nominee in November’s upcoming election in a fiery, hour-and-fifteen-minute long speech on the final night of the Republican Convention in Cleveland. Following the speech, many pundits on both sides called Trump’s words “hate-filled, angry, and fear-mongering.” Sen. Elizabeth Warren even compared Trump to a “two-bit dictator” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, but according to a CNN/ORC Instant Poll, 56 percent of voters say they are more likely to vote for The Donald after watching his speech.
In the poll, 32 percent of voters said Trump’s speech had very little effect on them and only 10 percent said they would be less likely to vote for him after tuning in. According to Yahoo! Finance, 57 percent of viewers said they had a “very positive” reaction to Trump’s speech, 24 percent say it had a “negative effect” on them and 18 percent said they were “somewhat positive” after watching. No word on how many people cast their votes in the poll, but the margin of error was around 4.5 percent.
In last night’s speech, Trump pledged to “make America great again” by banning immigrants from countries reigned by terror. He resolved to fix trade to benefit the American people, and he surprisingly pledged to help youth in underserved communities amid police violence against black men, as well as to protect the LGBTQ community following the Orlando shooting. Trump also blamed Hillary Clinton’s leadership as Secretary of State for conflicts in the Middle East and ISIS. In case you missed it, here’s the full speech.
