Donald Trump told a story at a Charleston, South Carolina rally on Friday. It’s set in the early 1990s, while we were apparently also having a terrorism problem. Trump says that someone named General Pershing caught 50 terrorists, and decided to deal with them by dipping 50 bullets in pig’s blood. Do you see where this is going?
Here’s how Trump tells it in the video above.
He took 50 bullets, and he dipped them in pig’s blood. And he had his men load his rifles, and he lined up the 50 people, and they shot 49 of those people. And the 50th person, he said, ‘You go back to your people, and you tell them what happened. And for 25 years, there wasn’t a problem.
What is the moral of this story, according to Trump? It’s to show that a little thing like waterboarding never hurt any Muslim terrorists. After this story, Trump warns the audience that we have to get tougher, or “we’re not gonna have a country, folks.”
Gawker points out, however, that this story is probably not true, linking to a Snopes debunking. The fact that Trump is telling an unsubstantiated story probably won’t hurt his poll numbers, though. He’ll continue with stump speeches like these, with few consequences.
