The New Hampshire GOP debate — which will be a grand meetup after Donald Trump’s Iowa loss to Ted Cruz — will happen on Saturday night. In the aftermath, Trump’s outstanding history of “loser” tweets came back to haunt him. The man himself managed to keep his cool (and even delivered a “humble” speech) for about 24 hours, but an explosion was inevitable. Trump unloaded by saying Cruz “illegally stole” Iowa.
Trump was blowing off steam, which is his style. The bottom line, however, is that Cruz worked Iowa for many weeks while Trump flew in and out at will. Trump sort of admitted he didn’t spend much time there, but that was also an excuse for his second-place finish. Trump dropped the ball, but — certainly — Cruz is a sneaky one. He’s currently in hot water for allowing staff members to plant fake information about Ben Carson’s campaign. Carson slashed staff this week, but he’s not out of the race yet. However, Cruz pulled some shady moves on Carson in Iowa:
New audio obtained exclusively by Breitbart News indicates that as the Iowa caucuses began on Monday night, the Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) campaign called precinct captains informing them that Dr. Ben Carson was suspending campaigning, and instructing them to tell voters they should “not waste a vote on Ben Carson and vote for Ted Cruz.”
Cruz doesn’t care about Carson. He cares about winning, and (to him) that means taking votes away from Trump. Cruz has been trolling Trump mercilessly by saying Trump is less mature than children, and then Cruz created the #Trumpertantrum. Both of these guys are so focused on each other, but they don’t see the real contender for the GOP nomination — Marco Rubio.
Rubio’s Iowa surge surprised everyone, including Rubio. Can Rubio sustain this momentum and possibly prevail in New Hampshire? Neither Cruz nor Trump appear to be taking Rubio seriously as a threat. Otherwise, the Cruz-Trump diss machine wouldn’t be rolling so hard. Trump has busied himself by trolling Cruz on the Hugh Hewitt show. In this audio clip, Trump jokes that he’s “always liked” Cruz, and maybe he’ll select Cruz as his VP running mate.
That’s gotta turn the knife a bit for Cruz, but he won’t stay rattled for long. After all, Cruz is the guy who throws elbows during basketball games while shouting, “My bad!” Cruz is focused on the final score, and he doesn’t care what his fellow players think of him. There’s a little back and forth on immigration between Cruz and Rubio, but this clash doesn’t even register compared to the Cruz and Trump rivalry.
