A pig’s head bearing an insulting inscription was found outside one of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s constituency offices on Saturday. The pig’s head could be related to Merkel’s welcoming stance towards the migrants and refugees that have come to Germany recently, as well as other parts of Europe from countries like Syria.

According to The Guardian, the pig’s head was discovered at Merkel’s branch office in Straslund, which Merkel once represented in parliament. The police aren’t releasing what exactly the insults were as they investigate who did this.

Though it’s hard to tell why someone did this without knowing the message inscribed on the pig’s head (maybe the weirdest clause I’ve ever written), it coincides with Merkel’s recent slide in popularity. The Independent reports that a recent poll showed almost half of Germans do not want Merkel to be elected to a fourth term in office, and show a significant drop in support for the two establishment parties in Germany’s ruling coalition.

Experts ascribe this to her stance towards migrants fleeing violence in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Back in March, an anti-immigrant party made big gains in state elections by focusing on Merkel’s refusal to close Germany’s borders to asylum applicants, as the Wall Street Journal reports. As shown in the photo above, Neo-Nazis recently marched against Merkel for this reason as well.
