Taylor Swift Has Donated $1 Million To Louisiana Flood Relief

Even if your personal stance in the already iconic feud of Kim Kardashian vs. Taylor Swift reflects an allegiance towards the former, you must admit the “Shake It Off” star’s altruism is undeniable. Since rising to stardom, the 26-year-old pop powerhouse has developed an impressive resume of humanitarian efforts. Her catalog of charitable donations ranges from providing an autistic 5-year-old with $10,000 so he may obtain a therapy dog to offering $50,000 to a dedicated 11-year-old Swiftie battling cancer. The country singer turned mainstream sensation has also donated $50,000 to New York City public schools, and most famously $250,000 to Kesha in the midst of her legal woes with Dr. Luke.

Swift’s generosity is palpable, and was further established when the singer-songwriter discussed her intent to utilize her A-list driven fortune to donate $1 million to Louisiana. In a statement made to the Associated Press this past Tuesday, the 1989 artist asserted, “We began The 1989 World Tour in Louisiana, and the wonderful fans there made us feel completely at home. The fact that so many people in Louisiana have been forced out of their own homes this week is heartbreaking.”

The disastrous floods hitting the southern state have been severe and even have proved fatal, killing a reported 11 people while 40,000 homes have been impacted and 30,000 individuals and 1,000 pets have been rescued from the destruction. Nearly half of Louisiana’s 64 parishes are set to be declared “disaster” areas by the State’s governor, John Bel Edwards.

Taylor urged her fans and the general public alike to follow suit and donate what they can to the disaster relief fund, saying, “I encourage those who can to help out and send your love and prayers their way during this devastating time.”
