Actor Wendell Pierce, who is best known for playing Detective William “Bunk” Moreland on The Wire, was arrested early Saturday morning in Atlanta for allegedly attacking a woman and her boyfriend. This is because the woman said she was a Bernie Sanders supporter while Pierce is a Hillary Clinton supporter.

TMZ broke the story, reporting that Pierce started talking to the couple at 3:30 am at the Loews Hotel in Atlanta. When the woman said she was a Sanders fan, Pierce “became enraged, pushed the boyfriend and then went after his girlfriend … grabbing her hair and smacking her in the head.” Police later arrested Pierce for battery. He was released on a $1000 bond.

The New Orleans Advocate has more details, with Atlanta police confirming that Pierce had been arrested.

“The incident did not rise to anything significant, so no special notification was made … it was treated like any other arrest a patrol officer conducts,” police spokesman Donald Hannah told WWL-TV in an email shared with The New Orleans Advocate. “Mr. Pierce made no indication he was famous, nor did the officer inquire.”

As always, people have a lot to say about this on Twitter, with many fixating on the fact that Pierce assaulted a woman and that Clinton is somehow responsible.
