After a long period of rumors and innuendo following North Carolina’s oppressive and offensive HB2 law stripping LGBT individuals of discrimination protections and forcing transgender individuals to use the bathrooms of their birth genders, it appears the NBA has finally, officially decided to move the 2017 All Star Game from Charlotte to New Orleans. The news comes from an ESPN report citing sources close to the process.

NBA All Star Weekend is often seen as a big party surrounding the events on the court, and to that end, it couldn’t have a better host city than New Orleans. Of course, not having a law harassing transgender individuals on the books helps as well. With no movement toward a repeal of HB2 in North Carolina, this is an unsurprising move by the NBA, one that should be officially announced very soon.
