Full disclosure: This massive Anthony Davis alley-oop came when Draymond Green was playing nominal center for the Golden State Warriors. But could Andrew Bogut or Festus Ezeli really have soared high enough to contest The Brow at the rim? No way.
The thing that makes the New Orleans Pelicans’ franchise player such a devastating offensive force is his versatility. Not only can he sky for alley-oops like a souped-up Tyson Chandler, but Davis is an awesome isolation scorer and a fantastic shooter to 20 feet. Just imagine once the 22 year-old puts on a bit more weight and starts knocking down three-pointers – how will he be stopped?
Unfortunately for Monty Williams’ team, though, Davis isn’t quite coming through when his team needs him most. Down a half game to the Oklahoma City Thunder for eighth-place in the West, the Pelicans trail the conference-leading ‘Dubs 55-43 at halftime – and The Brow’s only baskets have come via lobs.
Here’s hoping Davis turns it around in the second half to give New Orleans a chance. Given his incredible performance all season long, let’s just say we wouldn’t be surprised if that proves the case.
