We Finally Found The One Thing The Cavaliers Are Bad At In The Playoffs

The Cleveland Cavaliers entered Sunday night 10-0 in the 2017 NBA playoffs, having taken care of the Pacers and Raptors with relative ease and steamrolled the Celtics through the first two games of the Eastern Conference Finals. On the court, there’s not much the Cavs don’t excel at. Their offense is terrifying, as LeBron James and Kyrie Irving orchestrate a nearly unstoppable attack thanks to all of the weapons around them, and the defense has seen significant improvement since they flipped the switch for the postseason.

However, there is one thing that the Cavaliers, as an organization, struggle at in the playoffs, and that weakness was exposed on Sunday night ahead of Game 3 against the Celtics. Cleveland’s biggest weakness is promotional towel design.


I don’t know who designed this, and I don’t want to be mean, but come on, folks. We have to do better than this. Let’s breakdown all of the places where they went wrong with this towel.

You can’t have this many fonts going on at once. I need someone to explain what went into the decision to block out “warm” in a yellow box and make it cursive, splitting up the main font with a different font. I also can’t get over the decision to split “welcomes” into two words.

Just make it a landscape design, and you don’t have to do this (and also you could do “No Warm” over “Welcomes” and then you kill two birds with one stone by not being tempted for that terrible font split). However, if you must split “welcomes” up, do it between the “l” and “c” and it will look at least not as awful.

Then there’s the addition of lightning bolts around “No” for some reason and the “no” signs around warm, which seems like it would be the opposite of what it’s supposed to be. This isn’t as big of an issue for me as the font and the welcomes thing, but it’s just another misstep. The Cavs’ towel design team needs to take a cue from the team on the court and “flip the switch” before the Finals because this just won’t do.
