Chandler Parsons Perfectly Explains His Decision To Opt Out On Twitter

Chandler Parsons will become a free agent on July 1, choosing to opt out of the final year of his deal with the Mavericks despite undergoing season-ending knee surgery in March. He’s expected to command something close to a max deal on the open market, which has confused some fans who don’t understand how the salary cap is going to work this summer.

Because it’s 2016, Parsons had words for them on Twitter:

Of note, Parsons also said that he’s still friends with DeAndre Jordan despite last year’s free-agency debacle, and that he’s never had a beer in his life.

It’s hard to argue with Parsons’ logic on the opt-out. With the salary cap set to spike to $94 million, even players with Parsons’ injury concerns are going to get paid, and it makes sense for someone with his health history to try to cash in on a long-term deal when he has the chance. If he’s healthy, Parsons is a versatile scorer who can help a lot of teams, and will certainly have plenty of suitors on the open market.

Whether he ends up back in Dallas at his price tag is another matter, but one way or another, Parsons is going to make a lot of money in a week or so – along with a bunch of other players.
