The Clippers-Rockets Scuffle Led To One Of The Best Nights In NBA Twitter History

If you went to bed early on Monday night, you may have missed all the excitement from the Clippers-Rockets game at Staples Center.

Though Chris Paul technically left the team on good terms when he was traded to the Rockets last summer, that doesn’t mean there wasn’t some lingering resentment on both sides. All of that and more came bubbling to the surface on Monday night and resulted in several chippy plays, a whole lot of trash talk, a couple of ejections, and some highly-absurd locker-room confrontations after the game.

Blake Griffin was at the center of most of it, at various points bumping into Mike D’Antoni on his way up the court, bodying up CP3 in the post, aggressively throwing the ball off of Eric Gordon to try and save a possession, and getting in Trevor Ariza’s face, who was talking trash to Austin Rivers.

Ariza and Griffin both earned ejections for their part in the fracas, but it didn’t end there. After the game, Clint Capela reportedly went straight to the Clippers’ locker room, apparently in some sort of strategic effort to distract them, while Paul allegedly went trooping through a system of secret tunnels with Ariza and James Harden to arrive some sort of secret entrance where they presumably planned to do…what exactly?

To top it all off, the LAPD eventually got involved and positioned officers around both team buses to avoid any further incidents. The internet reacted precisely like you would expect, i.e. with a cavalcade of memes. We’ve rounded up the very best for your enjoyment.

NBA Twitter is at its best when something too absurd for anyone’s comprehension occurs in the basketball world. That was absolutely the case on Monday night.
