DeMarcus Cousins Admits He ‘Doesn’t Really Understand’ The Kings’ Offseason Moves

After spending some time enjoying a stay-cation in the Sacramento area this summer, DeMarcus Cousins is back to work, this time wth Team USA as they prepare for the Rio Olympics, which get underway in just a few shorts weeks. With USA Basketball’s roster relatively depleted going into the games, Cousins is set to take a larger role as the men’s national team tries to take home its third consecutive gold medal.

The Kings big man, however, still seems a little sidetracked with his team’s draft and free agency decisions this summer, and didn’t exactly jump to the front office’s defense when asked about it after practice on Monday. Via Kurt Helin of Pro Basketball Talk:

“I don’t really understand what’s going on. I just control what I can control; I let them do their jobs,” Cousins said as USA Basketball opened up training camp in Las Vegas Monday.

After the Kings acquired yet another frontcourt player, Georgios Papagiannis, on draft night, instead of shoring up their backcourt, Cousins famously tweeted this:

He has since, however, claimed — with tongue firmly in cheek — that the above tweet was in reference to the hot yoga class he was taking and simply chalked it up to bad timing on his part. But his most recent comments don’t leave any doubt about his feelings on where the Kings are headed.

Sacramento finally parted ways with George Karl, who was at the root of a lot of the organizational dysfunction, but they failed to land any big names in free agency this summer to pair with their superstar center and once again face the prospect of another lost season in the middle of Boogie’s prime.

They’ve been reluctant to trade Cousins amid all the chaos, but his ever-growing displeasure with the direction of the franchise combined with the team’s continued mediocrity could change things sooner rather than later.
