Justin Holiday Claims He Wasn’t Listening To Drake When He Got His Five-Second Violation

Drake could probably describe Justin Holiday’s inner ear he got so close to it.

The former soap opera star turned musician got up from his courtside seat at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre and talked enough trash to force a crunch-time five-second violation on the Bulls wing with under a minute to go during Tuesday night’s contest against Drake’s hometown Raptors.

Or did he? Holiday says otherwise.

“I wasn’t paying attention to him,” Holiday told ESPN’s Nick Friedell. “I was listening to the ref. The ref was talking to me at the time. And I had to focus on getting the ball in the play. I wasn’t worried about what Drake was talking about.”

Judge for yourself. Here’s the play in reference:

So, who really caused this? Is Ken Mauer, the official Holiday was referring to, as slick a talker as he is a hair stylist? Or is Holiday just covering up the fact that Drake was right in his ear. And I mean right in his ear.

Athletes say all the time that they don’t hear the crowd; they don’t hear the hecklers. But c’mon. This isn’t about zoning out. It’s not about tunnel vision. Someone’s not screaming from the upper deck. He’s right there. How could anyone not hear that?
