Why Was Kemba Walker So Mad With Himself After Dropping A Franchise-Record 52 Points?

Nobody expected a double-overtime thriller from the Hornets and Jazz on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, but that’s exactly what we got. It was even better for fans in Charlotte, who got a franchise-best 52 points from Kemba Walker to go along with a 124-119 win. You’d think that’d be cause for celebration, but that wasn’t the case for Walker, who was clearly frustrated with himself in the above sideline interview after the game.

It’s hard to pick out exactly what he was referring to, unless of course it was this turnover with 1:16 left in the fourth quarter when Charlotte had a 93-90 lead.

Even that wasn’t really his fault, more of an unlucky bounce on a pass that was just a tad too low. He didn’t commit anymore turnovers in the two extra periods and finished with jaw-dropping 52 points on 16-of-34 shooting from the field, including 6-of-11 from downtown, to go along with nine rebounds and eight assists.

He joined some pretty exclusive company on the list above, including Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden. That should be consolation enough for whatever it was still bugging him after the final buzzer, which might have been the two potentially game-winning shots he missed at the end of regulation and the first overtime. Other than that, he’s being a little too hard on himself, which in itself is endearing. So rather than nitpicking, just enjoy this historic performance.
