LeBron James Finally Explains All Those Cryptic Tweets

The Cleveland Cavaliers might be the most dissatisfied, disappointing team ever to be in the top seed of the Eastern Conference. No matter how good their record is, they can’t seem to put together truly dominant basketball, or ever seem happy about the way they’re playing. Their chemistry has constantly been questioned, and LeBron James seemed to invite more of the same with some hard-to-parse tweets he sent out over the weekend:

Those familiar with Twitter know a subtweet when they see one — a statement seemingly meant as a direct address to someone, but without anyone being specifically mentioned. Outside of celebrity athlete context, subtweets are often directed towards exes, with sentiments like, “I’m happier now than I ever was with you.” It’s petty, but preferable to directly mentioning the subject, which demands a response that will inevitably lead to a Twitter fight (the second-least dignified of all fights, with Facebook comments holding the top spot).

Still, LeBron’s comments could conceivably be construed as motivational platitudes — or at least, that’s the explanation he offered when asked about the tweets at Cavs practice on Monday.

Okay, so you have a “beautiful mind,” LeBron. We’ll grant you that you’ve repeatedly expressed genius on the basketball court, but genius is nearly impossible to convey on Twitter. But that didn’t stop LeBron from insisting that if you were smart enough, you’d “get it”:

Sure, LeBron.
