Marc Gasol Advised His Bro Pau Gasol To Go To The Spurs At This Stage Of His Career

Bulls big man Pau Gasol will likely decline his player option and become a free agent this summer, and with all the upheaval surrounding Chicago’s disappointing end to the season (along with rumors that team brass prefer to re-sign Joakim Noah instead), it’s looking less likely that he’ll stay with his incumbent team at this point. Even at this advanced stage of his career, the highly-skilled center should have no shortage of suitors, but the smart money is on the 35-year-old veteran signing on with a legitimate championship contender.

For years, there have been whispers about him potentially joining up with his brother Marc Gasol as they obviously have a long history of playing basketball together since childhood and have demonstrated excellent on-court chemistry during their exploits with the highly-successful Spanish National Team. Marc, however, doesn’t appear too eager to recruit his brother to the Grizzlies. In fact, it was a bit of a surprise to see exactly where he suggested Pau should end up next season.

The Spurs would probably jump at the opportunity if Pau is willing to take a pay cut at this point, much in the vein of what David West did last summer when he turned down approximately $11 million for a chance to get a ring in San Antonio. But that’s the rub of it. Pau hasn’t made any official proclamations on the matter one way or the other, so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens when the free agent frenzy kicks off on July 1.
