Marcus Smart Is A Fan Of Guillotines, And More We Learned From His Twitter Q+A

Amid all the craziness surrounding the Boston Celtics, Marcus Smart is still suiting up for the team. This is a good thing for the Celtic faithful, because Smart has managed to endear himself to fans during his tenure in Beantown, both on and off the court. His hard-nosed play on both ends of the floor is the kind of thing that fans love and opposing fans loathe, and off the court, Smart has made himself a beloved member of the community, and not just because he loves the collection of the social media sphere affectionately known as Weird Celtics Twitter.

The latest example of this came on Tuesday night, when Smart hosted a Twitter Q+A. He answered a whole bunch of questions with the understanding that, if he answered, fans would give money to his YounGameChanger Foundation. In response, fans inundated him with questions, and because the weirdness of Celtics Twitter is well-documented, we got some delightfully strange responses.

Smart, of course, got plenty of questions related to things like basketball and music, which gave fans a glimpse into his personal and professional life.

We also got a really heartwarming answer from Smart about who inspired him as he was coming up in the world of basketball.

But then, the strange stuff started rolling in. For example, he was asked this question about fighting.

(For the record: This was discussed in the Dime Slack, and we agreed that you take the Al Horford-sized bear, because 5 > 1 and, while none of us have ever fought a bear, we assume bears are about the size of Al Horford, anyway, even if their eyes are not as lovely.)

Our pal The Riffs Man popped up, asking a different type of music question than “what do you like to listen to?”

Smart was faced with a riddle, and while he was unable to answer it, he was able to get some cash for his charity out of the whole thing.

It is now time for us to get to the best moment of the entire Q+A. One curious tweeter had a simple question stemming from — what else? — a desire to learn about Smart’s preferred medieval siege weapon.

In response, Smart exceeded any reasonable expectations for how he’d answer this question.

This portion of the program died down for a little while Smart did other things, and then, this all happened.

As a journalist, the aim is to remain objective, but this all, if I can editorialize for a moment, rocks. Marcus Smart, if you end up reading this, you have a standing offer to write about literally any revolution that has occurred throughout human history here at Dime. Just shoot us a DM on Twitter and we’ll figure something out.
