With Metta World Peace On His Side, D’Angelo Russell Said He’s Good In Any Back Alley

D’Angelo Russell had a rough rookie season. Granted, that’s primarily not based upon his on-court productivity; although, he did have his struggles, like most rookies. No, Russell is mostly remembered from last season because he secretly videotaped teammate talking about his, um, romantic exploits. This offseason, Russell has had time to think about things in preparation for his second year in the NBA. During a one-on-one conversation with Fox Sports he was asked about the guy he’d least like to face un a back alley. Turns out, it’s his teammate.

Russell was asked who is the last NBA player he’d want to meet in a back alley.

“If my teammate wasn’t Metta World Peace, I’d probably say him,” said Russell. “But he is on my team, so I know I’m good wherever I go.”

Clearly, World Peace still had some street cred from his Ron Artest days. Metta seems like a calmer man now, but we certainly don’t want to be the one to test World Peace in a back alley.

Russell wasn’t asked about Nick Young, who the Lakers are again trying to unload this summer. There are reports they’ll buy Young out if they’re again unsuccessful in that endeavor, so at least Russell won’t have to face his biggest rookie-year transgression each day in the locker room. Plus, Luke Walton is the coach now, and he’s more keen to deal with the still-learning rookie than with last year’s sideline curmudgeon, Byron Scott.
