Missouri State Won On A Wild Halfcourt Buzzer Beater After Stealing An Inbounds Pass

ESPN

Missouri State and Illinois State squared off on the basketball court on Sunday and, for most of the country, a battle of teams from the Missouri Valley Conference wouldn’t be of great importance. In fact, most would see a 66-65 win for Missouri State and not think much of the result, particularly as the Bears were six-point favorites (with a 67 percent chance at victory according to KenPom) over the visiting Redbirds.

However, something strange and beautiful happened in the final seconds of an otherwise anonymous game, with Missouri State senior Jarred Dixon converting a wild buzzer-beater from halfcourt to secure the victory.

As you can see, this wasn’t even a “conventional” halfcourt buzzer-beater, as an errant inbounds pass from Illinois State resulted in an all-out scrum with both teams trying to gain possession near mid-court. From there, Dixon simply gathered the ball and launched it toward the rim from almost the exact center of the floor and his long-distance offering hit the glass before falling through the rim for the game-winner.

Dixon was rather quiet before this moment, scoring 10 points on 2-of-8 shooting, but his last shot made the largest impact and it sent shockwaves around the sport. Missouri State exits the game with a 13-12 record and the Bears will need to win the Missouri Valley Conference in order to crash the NCAA Tournament in March. With that said, this is one to remember for all parties involved and the result was one of the crazier game-winners of the season in college basketball.
