Here’s Your First Wild March Madness Moment Thanks To Northern Iowa’s Buzzer-Beater

Northern Iowa upset top-seeded Wichita State in the semifinals of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament on Friday, but in order to secure the league’s bid in the NCAA Tournament, they had to get past Evansville in the title game Sunday afternoon.

Things were looking good for the Panthers for most of the game until Evansville mounted a feverish second-half comeback to tie it up. The momentum appeared to be on the Purple Ace’s side heading into a potential overtime session, but UNI’s Wes Washpun made sure that wouldn’t be necessary with this dramatic buzzer-beater to send his team back to the big dance (they don’t call it shooter’s touch for nothing).

In addition to beating Wichita State twice, Northern Iowa also has wins over Iowa State and North Carolina this year, so they’re a team to look out for when NCAA Tournament office pool comes out next week.

March Madness is back, and it is still the greatest.
