Rajon Rondo has never been someone who is afraid to speak his mind, but he may now be regretting a comment he made five years ago while he was still with the Celtics. Rondo has been tapped to be the replacement to Derrick Rose in Chitown next season, but he might first need to ask for forgiveness from his hometown fans after trashing them in an interview back in 2011.
Rondo’s Celtics and the Bulls had some intense playoff series while he was in the green and white, and the Chicago faithful apparently did not like him getting into it with fan-favorite Kirk Hinrich, causing them to jeer him relentlessly. Because of this, Rondo had an easy answer when he was asked who the most “obnoxious” NBA crowd was.
“I’d say Chicago. Ever since a couple years back in the playoffs, me and Kirk [Hinrich] got into it and they’ve been booing me and heckling me ever since.”
As Larry Nance, Dak Prescott, and now Rondo are learning, when you’re a professional athlete, it’s probably best to just not trash any player, fan base, or organization, because there’s probably going to be a day when you’re on the same side and someone on the internet is going to dig those comments up.
The Chicago crowd will forgive Rondo if he helps lead the Bulls back into the playoffs, but if he stinks it up, those “obnoxious” Bulls fans will assuredly let him hear it once more.
