This Beautiful, Thunderous Dunk By Russell Westbrook Should Be The NBA’s Next Logo

The NBA’s logo is something close to perfect. Jerry West’s kinetic silhouette has become a worldwide symbol for not just the league, but basketball at large. It should never change.

If the NBA is for some reason forced to change its logo going forward, though, we’ve already found the perfect replacement: A shot of Russell Westbrook cocking the ball back unfathomably far on this thunder jam. Just look at this aesthetic in all of its beautiful, downright nasty glory.

Quick, someone alert Adam Silver.

This ferocious dunk also serves as a helpful reminder that the Oklahoma City Thunder superstar is just as explosive a leaper off of two feet as he is one. Most players prefer jumping either style of jump to the other. LeBron James has always been a better one-footed leaper, for instance, while prime Vince Carter seemed to get a bit more air launching off of both legs. For an alien athlete like Westbrook, though, it doesn’t seem to matter – he flies no matter what.

But that’s on the periphery of far more important matters at hand.

The league’s logo is absolutely iconic, and should probably live-on forever. But just in case a change is ever needed, Westbrook’s aerial blend of anger and grace would definitely serve as a worthy successor.
