Kings Guard Darren Collison Has Been Arrested On Domestic Violence Charges

Sacramento Kings point guard Darren Collison has been arrested on a domestic violence charge, according to CBS 13 Sacramento. There are no details as of now, but Collison has been charged with one count of inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant.

The Kings released a statement after Collison’s arrest:

“We’ve been made aware of the situation. The Sacramento Kings condemn violence of any kind. We are gathering additional information and once all facts are known we will take appropriate steps.”

Once Collison’s case plays out, there will be more clarity on what his punishment will be. The NBA’s last high-profile domestic violence case saw Charlotte Hornets forward Jeffery Taylor suspended for 24 games after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor domestic assault charge. This is what NBA commissioner Adam Silver said after Taylor’s suspension:

“While the suspension is significantly longer than prior suspensions for incidents of domestic violence by NBA players, it is appropriate in light of Mr. Taylor’s conduct, the need to deter similar conduct going forward, and the evolving social consensus — with which we fully concur — that professional sports leagues like the NBA must respond to such incidents in a more rigorous way.”

Collison averaged 14 points and 4.3 assists per game for the Kings this year.
